The PHA Police Department (PHAPD) has served the public housing residents since 1971.
PHAPD works with Philadelphia Police to provide residents with a safe environment 24 hours a day.
The PHAPD also provides valuable services such as DARE, GREAT, Explorers Program, Domestic Violence Intervention, Conflict Resolution, and Child Identification programs.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. has recognized PHAPD as a Nationally Accredited Police Department in 1998. Less than 1,000 of the 10,000 police departments in the United States receive this accreditation. PHAPD is proud to be among this elite group of police departments and is striving to improve the delivery of services and the administrative functions of the department.
Current projects include:
- Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE) program
- Town-Watch program in several PHA communities
- Development of Police Explorer programs in PHA communities
- PHAPD/Philadelphia Police Drug Task Force/ State Attorney General's Office partnership
- Implementation of PHA community policing initiatives
