The Philadelphia Housing Authority learned today that PHA employee
Rodney Barnes, a victim of a gun shooting while completing
weatherization and maintenance repairs at Raymond Rosen Manor on
July 25, passed away today as a result of that injury.
"Everyone in the PHA family is saddened to hear of the loss of
Rodney Barnes. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to his
wife Shirley, their four children and their extended family. Due to
a senseless act of crime, a hard working husband, father and man of
God has been taken from us. We now choose to focus on the life Mr.
Barnes lived - a life of caring, compassion and service. We implore
anyone with information about the horrible act that took his life
to contact the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS," said PHA
Executive Director Carl Greene.
Aside from being a union carpenter, Mr. Barnes, 46, was a
minister at the Mt. Airy Church of God.
PHA and the Carpenters' Union last week announced a $10,000
reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of
the person who shot Rodney Barnes. Anyone with information should
call 215-546-TIPS (8477). Your identity will remain
