HCV Waiting List Application Update

PHA is asking current Housing Choice Voucher Program applicants to update their application information by FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2016. Learn more about the update below.

1. When was the letter sent? Who should have received a letter?

PHA will send a letter to all current applicants on the Housing Choice Voucher Program waitlist the week of January 25, 2016 requiring an update of their application.

Letters were mailed to individuals who applied for the Housing Choice Voucher Program when the Waitlist was open for applications between March 2, 2010 and March 15, 2010.

2. What is the timeframe for updating applications?

PHA will begin accepting updates on Monday, February 1st 2016 through Friday, March 4th, 2016.

3. How can applicants update their application?

Applicants have three options:

  • Online at http://www.pha.phila.gov/housing/admissions.aspx .On the website page click on review or update your existing application here. Applicants will need their PIN to log in.  If applicants do not have their PIN or are having issues logging in they can email: phatechsupport@pha.phila.gov
  • By phone at 215-684-1200. PHA will have call center representatives available Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.
  • In person at 2850 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19133, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

4. What information does the applicant need?

Applicants will need to confirm or update their contact information, which consists of their mailing address and phone number ONLY. No demographic information, including family composition or income will be updated.

The contact information is essential, so the applicant can be contacted once they reach the top of the HCV waitlist. However, an applicant may be asked to verify their social security number for further verification purposes.

5. What happens if applicants do not respond?

If an applicant does not update their information with PHA by the March 4th deadline, their name will be removed from the Housing Choice Voucher Program Waitlist. If they are removed, they can only re-apply once the HCV waitlist is re-opened.

6. When will the HCV waitlist be re-opened?

The waitlist is closed indefinitely. PHA will not re-open the waitlist until most of 2010 waitlist applications have been exhausted. The HCV waitlist has been open twice since 2000 (November 2000 and March 2010)

7. How are applicants pulled from the HCV waitlist?

Applicants are pulled from the waitlist by date and time of application. No other factors are considered and an applicant cannot be moved up the waitlist for any reason.

8. When will an applicant be pulled from the waitlist or how long is the wait?

PHA does not provide HCV applicants with time frames for how long it may take to be pulled from the waitlist.  A variety of factors determine when vouchers will become available, including funding availability, use of current vouchers and other operational factors.
