The Penn State Nutrition programs provide PHA residents with
information on eating healthy, food shopping, how to read food
labels and how to cook healthy meals. Each resident attends a five
week session and at the end of the session they receive a
certificate of completion, cook book and tote bag. To date Penn
State has provided 20 nutrition classes for the Philadelphia
Housing Authority. During the Summer Food Program Penn State and
the Food Share program provided fresh fruit and veggies to ten of
our summer food sites for the youth. We work with schools,
community agencies, libraries, and food pantries around the cities
encouraging people to engage in physical activity for overall
better health.
